Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer is returning to IMAX for a limited time.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Oppenheimer is returning to IMAX screens on November 3, 2023, for a one-week encore run following its initial release in July 2023. Six different locations across will project Oppenheimer’s return to IMAX in 70mm, including four AMC locations in California and New York, one in London, and one in Melbourne, Australia.
Released on the same day as Greta Gerwig’s Barbie, Oppenheimer made $82.5 million in the United States and Canada during its opening weekend. It went on to make a total of $946.9 million at the worldwide box office during its theatrical run, meaning it could potentially cross the $1 billion threshold during its rerelease.

“During World War II, Lt. Gen. Leslie Groves Jr. appoints physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer to work on the top-secret Manhattan Project,” the official synopsis reads. “Oppenheimer and a team of scientists spend years developing and designing the atomic bomb. Their work comes to fruition on July 16, 1945, as they witness the world’s first nuclear explosion, forever changing the course of history.”
Expected to be a major player in the upcoming awards season, Oppenheimer stars Cillian Murphy as J. Robert Oppenheimer, the “father of the atomic bomb.” Also starring in the movie are Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Robert Downey Jr., Florence Pugh, Josh Hartnett, Benny Safdie, Jason Clarke, Alden Ehrenreich, and more.
Based on the 2005 biography American Prometheus by Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin, Oppenheimer’s screenplay was written by Nolan. Nolan also produced the movie with Emma Thomas and Charles Roven.
Oppenheimer returns to IMAX screenings for one week only on November 3, 2023. The movie also has a digital, 4K Blu-ray, Blu-ray, and DVD release date set for November 21, 2023.
