The deputy prime minister has told MPs it was a priority to protect the UK from “foreign state activity that seeks to undermine our national security”.
Oliver Dowden was speaking after it emerged a parliamentary researcher had been arrested in March for allegedly spying for China.
Earlier the Speaker Lindsay Hoyle told MPs not to discuss security issues relating to the allegation in the Commons, but to raise issues privately with him.
