During the White House Tribal Nations Summit last week (Dec. 6, 2023) in Washington, DC, US Treasury Department representatives announced the approval of more than $86 million in funding for 24 Tribal governments under the American Rescue Plan’s State Small Business Credit Initiative.
In South Dakota, the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe of the Cheyenne River Reservation was allocated just shy of $5 million ($4,937,944).
In the June 2023 announcement, the Rosebud Sioux Tribe of the Rosebud Indian Reservation was given more than $7.8 million ($7,853,178).
So far, there have been 33 tribal applications approved representing 63 tribal governments and over $159 million in funding. Treasury Department officials say it’s part of the largest and most expansive one-time investment for Tribal governments for small business financing in the history of the United States.
