Small business owners and consumers have been advised to utilise channels provided by Small Business Claims Court (SBCC) to challenge every monetary issue that emanates from failed deals between the range of N1 and N5 million.

The advice was given, yesterday, by the coordinator of the People’s Advocate, Nsirimovu Courage, who noted that the court has been in existence since two months.

He noted that the court does not require tight bureaucratic procedures in filing petitions.

Courage, who is also a legal adviser, stressed that consumers and traders could enjoy speedy dispensation of justice and do not require any legal representation.

“We have Small Business Claims Court in Rivers State and this court is in about eight states in the country.

“The major purpose of the court is for the ease of doing business and speedy dispensation of justice,” he explained.

He also stated that the whole idea of establishing the court was to refer financial litigations that are between the range of N1 and N5 million to a special court that will handle it within 60 days.

“There are cases piled up in so many courts in Rivers state, which should not have taken long to resolve.

“The SBCC is not like the courts of records, where you have to file this or that and, in this court, one can defend oneself.”
