Cathay Pacific will temporarily reopen its popular The Wing Business lounge at Hong Kong next week as both the city and the airport prepare for a surge in passengers.
The Oneworld member has confirmed The Wing Business lounge will unlock its doors and roll out the welcome mat from Thursday March 30 through to Monday April 10.
This period spans two key events on the Hong Kong calendar:
- the Hong Kong round of the World Rugby Sevens, which runs from Friday March 31 to Sunday April 2
- the start of the Easter school holidays, beginning on Wednesday April 5
The lounge’s signature Noodle Bar will be in full swing, along with a buffet selection of Chinese and Western dishes plus self-service drinks.
Co-sited with The Wing First lounge at the ‘top’ of the airport terminal, across from gates 1-4, The Wing Business will receive pressure on The Deck, which has become increasingly crowded with each week, and make things easier for lounge-worthy passengers who’d otherwise need to trek to the other end of the terminal to visit The Pier Business.
However, The Wing Business lounge’s showers won’t be available during this period:“ For shower facilities, please visit The Pier Business or The Deck,” Cathay advises.
The Wing Business admits business class passengers on Cathay Pacific and its Oneworld partners (including British Airways and Qantas), along with Cathay Gold and Oneworld Emerald frequent flyers.
As previously reported by Executive Traveller, Cathay Pacific expects to permanently reopen The Wing Business in the coming months, with The Pier First to follow by the middle of the year.
“This supports our offer in terms of passenger volume,” says Vivian Lo, Cathay’s General Manager for Customer Experience & Design, as it will see Cathay’s Hong Kong lounge portfolio back at full strength.
Another lounge option is also on the horizon, with the Qantas Hong Kong Lounge making a return in April.
Located adjacent to The Deck, the Qantas Hong Kong Lounge is now being refreshed ahead of a ribbon-cutting tipped to take place in the second half of April.
“By and large, the lounge was in excellent condition” says Phil Capps, Qantas’ Executive Manager of Product & Service, who recently toured the site.
The refresh “is primarily the furniture and some of the carpet, and we’re taking the opportunity to do some repainting,” Capps tells Executive Traveller.
“Some of the fixed furniture was still there, and a lot of those pieces are quite timeless and very classic.”
Visitors will delight to the familiar char siu Chinese barbecued pork bar and the yum cha trolley of pre-flight delights such as dumplings and mango tarts.
Access to the Qantas Hong Kong Lounge will be available for business class passengers on Qantas and Oneworld airline flights along with Qantas Gold and Platinum and Oneworld Sapphire and Emerald-grade frequent flyers and Qantas Club members.
