England under-21s head coach Lee Carsley heaped praise on Noni Madueke after his game-changing cameo during his side’s 4-0 victory over France on Saturday.

The 21-year-old, who scored and provided two assists after coming on in the second half at the King Power Stadium, was named player of the match following his impressive 24-minute spell.

Carsley commended the Chelsea winger but admitted that he needs time to fulfil his potential.

He said: “He is exciting, fast, direct, and very versatile but what we have to remember is he is still young.

“He is going to need time, match minutes, the time to work on his game but he has high potential.

“Like a lot of the younger players, he just needs an opportunity.

“They need opportunities to show that talent and given a run of games he will be fine.”

Madueke joined Chelsea in the January transfer window from PSV Eindhoven but has struggled to make a significant impact since joining the west London club.

The former Tottenham Hotspur youth player has only made four appearances for Chelsea so far, without scoring a goal or registering an assist.

England under-21s are next in action against Croatia at Craven Cottage on Tuesday.
