Can’t pretend not to see economic slowdown says Bonomi – English

(ANSA) – ROME, NOV 24 – An economic slowdown is underway and
we cannot pretend not to see it, Confindustria President Carlo
Bonomi said on Friday.

“We cannot close our eyes to what has been happening since the
second half of 2022, in the face of the sudden and unpredictable
exogenous storms that have hit us in recent years,” Bonomi told
the Lombardy World Forum.

“Lombardy and the North as a whole have once again demonstrated
their maturity and determination in succeeding in taking leaps
forward while facing extreme difficulties,” he continued.

However, Bonomi said that “for several quarters now an
increasingly evident limitation has begun to manifest itself,
the superimposition of ever new exogenous lashings has gradually
slowed down the impetuous growth of the previous two years”.

“The slowdown is being felt in Lombardy and throughout the
North, and we cannot pretend not to see it,” insisted the leader
of Italy’s main industrial employers’ association.

“We cannot simply hope that everything will pass. These years
have taught us that there is a ‘new normal’: in the
international economy sudden crises have become increasingly
frequent, rapid and unpredictable,” concluded Bonomi. (ANSA).
