During August ’23, Canada’s apparel imports surged by 16.19 per cent valuing US $ 1.13 billion as compared to US $ 970 million in a month before – as per official data that was further analysed by team Apparel Resources.
However, the yearly decline continued as imports fell by 25.24 per cent as compared to August ’22 when imports valued US $ 1.51 billion.
In August ’23, India and Vietnam couldn’t see growth both in year-wise and month-wise shipment to Canada respectively and fell substantially, whereas other major Asian countries such as China, Bangladesh, and Cambodia saw decent growth in their respective exports to Canada on a monthly note.
India shipped apparel worth US $ 24.52 during August ’23, declining by 11.55 per cent on a monthly basis and by a massive 41.53 per cent on a yearly note. Vietnam too noted a drop of 3.96 per cent and 34.18 per cent in August ’23 respectively on an M-o-M and Y-o-Y basis.
Cumulatively, the apparel imports of Canada remained sluggish as they fell by 6.63 per cent to US $ 7.46 billion during the January to August ’23 period.
