Canadian apparel imports valued US $ 952.84 million in the first month of 2023, noting 25.93 per cent yearly growth – as per official statistics released by the Canadian custom.

The growth momentum has continued for Canada after it witnessed the highest-ever clothing imports in 2022, the values of which stood at US $ 12.41 billion.

In January ’23, the surge was noted both in knitted (up 11.19 per cent) and woven (up 46.79 per cent) categories.

All major Asian apparel manufacturing destinations such as China, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Cambodia, and Vietnam have experienced growth in their respective apparel exports to the Canadian market.

China remained the top supplier of apparel to the Canadian market with US $ 272.65 million shipment value, noting 26.90 per cent Year-on-Year growth.

Bangladesh grew significantly by 29.76 per cent on yearly basis to US $ 152.30 million; while Vietnam slipped to the third position with US $ 125 million worth of apparel exports to Canada during January ’23.

India performed well in the Canadian market as its apparel exports were valued at US $ 34.67 million which grew by 22.57 per cent on Y-o-Y basis in January ’23.
