Before we get started, some exciting news: I’m teaming up with my colleague Isabel Berwick — who writes the Working It newsletter, and hosts the Working It podcast — to answer more of your work and career dilemmas.

Maybe you’ve been overlooked at work? Maybe you need advice on a tricky team member? Maybe a bad manager’s got you down?

We would love to hear from you. If you have a problem you want us to help solve, you can use this link to submit it in audio. We may play your audio in the show — but you don’t need to give us your name, or where you work.

Isabel and I will answer your thorniest questions on her podcast. Please do submit your questions — we’re here to help.

The next problem

I’m 20 years old and entering my second year of university, but have recently been diagnosed with MS. I’ve worked since I was 13 and started my own business at 16, which grew quite well. But because of university and health conditions I decided to close the business down.

I want to continue with start-ups outside university and know that despite having grown my own business and having amazing mentorship I’ll need to start at the bottom. I’ve been working for a beer brand, which is the area I’d love to go into. Is it sensible or even feasible to work in start-ups — and especially alcohol start-ups — with MS?

I know big corporates like Diageo will have better processes around the illness but I don’t want to let it affect my dream or ability to make a positive impact. What is the best route for me? Male, 20s
