Calif. Law Would Require Thousands Of Firms To Report On Business Travel Emissions

California Governor Gavin Newsom on Sunday said he would sign new legislation requiring companies to report greenhouse gas emissions, including those resulting from business travel. State lawmakers passed the proposed bill last week.

A first for the United States, the Climate Corporate Data Accountability Act (SB 253) would impact all public and private companies based in the country that do business in California and generate annual revenues of more than $1 billion. A California Senate analysis found that about 5,344 companies are on that list, “a minority” of which “voluntarily report full-scope emissions today.”
