For the revived Gérald Genta to have staying power, it’ll have to do more than remakes and reissues (there are already enough of those); it will have to channel the original spirit of Genta the designer that made him stand out as something completely different. It sounds like the team leading the charge understands this and isn’t interested in tributes, but is more interested in making the watches Genta would be making today, if he were still around. If the Daniel Roth strategy is any guide, a modern take on Genta’s Grand Sonnerie might be the first watch from the revived brand.
Further details of the new Gérald Genta’s watches are expected to come later this year, with the first watches available next year; if it’s like the Daniel Roth revival (and it sounds like it is), prices will easily reach six figures.
