Business News: Finalists For The 2023 GPHG Awards Announced

The 2023 Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG) will be held in Geneva on November 9. This year, 90 timepieces – 84 watches and six clocks – have been nominated across 15 categories, and one timepiece will take home the “Aiguille d’Or” Grand Prix best-in-show award.

The GPHG was created in 2001 and is now run as a public interest foundation. The selection process involves the GPHG academy, a group of several hundred members (including a few Hodinkee editors) who participate in the selection process, alongside a jury of 30 members who will evaluate the final nominations in person before the GPHG awards ceremony in November.

While many of the biggest brands don’t participate, the GPHG is still the largest annual awards show in the watch industry. Each of the categories has six finalists; the “best-in-show” prize can be awarded to a watch in any of these categories – last year, it went to the MB&F Legacy Machine Sequential Evo.

So, let’s take a look at the nominees in some of the major categories…
