North Adams— BFAIR and the Firehouse Café & Bistro partner together to “Brunch for a Cause” on Sunday, April 23, 2023. Firehouse Cafe and Bistro is generously donating 30% of the proceeds to support BFAIR’s programs for people with developmental disabilities, autism, and acquired brain injury. Tickets are $45 per person. There will be exciting activities to participate in during brunch, such as raffles and the musical offerings of the local Lindsay Anne Acoustic. “We are incredibly grateful to Warren Dewes, Jr., Chef Xavier Jones, and the entire Firehouse Café team for generously hosting this event to benefit BFAIR. It is a great testament to the community supporting one another and leveraging opportunities for support, growth, and connection. Salisbury Bank official graduates from bank management program

Lakeville, Conn. — Salisbury Bank is pleased to announce that Aidan Gilligan, Vice President, Commercial Loan Officer has graduated from the Connecticut School of Finance & Management (CSFM), an intensive two-year bank management training program sponsored by the Connecticut Bankers Association. The program provides an opportunity for bank management personnel and other key employees of Connecticut’s banking industry to obtain additional knowledge and skills as well as a more comprehensive understanding of financial services.

The Town of Lee will hold Open Town Meeting

Lee— The Town of Lee will be holding its first open town meeting since 1968.  In 1969 the Town established a Representative Town Meeting form of government which was used until the year 2022.  On May 11, 2023 the Town will once again hold open town meetings due to a town wide referendum vote in 2022.  Any registered voter of Lee will be able to participate and vote on Town Meeting Articles.

Berkshire Natural Resources Council earns national recognition

Lenox— Berkshire Natural Resources Council (BNRC) has been accredited by the Land Trust Accreditation Commission, joining a network of over 450 accredited land trusts across the United States that have demonstrated their commitment to professional excellence and to maintaining the public’s trust in their work. About 10% of Massachusetts land trusts are accredited.

BNRC was subject to a comprehensive third-party evaluation prior to achieving this distinction. The Land Trust Accreditation Commission awarded accreditation, signifying its confidence that BNRC’s lands will be protected forever. Accredited land trusts steward almost 20 million acres of land—the size of Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island combined.

With its donors, volunteers, and partners, BNRC conserves open space, protects wildlife and habitats, supports local farmers, enhances the region’s climate resilience, and provides free access to the Berkshire outdoors for everybody.

Hancock Shaker Village appoints Board Chariman

Hancock— Hancock Shaker Village is very pleased to announce the appointment of Robert L. Plotz as the new chair of its Board of Trustees effective this spring. Outgoing chair Diane Varrin Eshleman will conclude her 15-year tenure on the board in December and will work closely with Bob to support him during the transition.

Robert L. Plotz is a retired litigator. In the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York, he investigated and prosecuted federal crimes including insider trading and stock manipulation cases. He subsequently practiced in a boutique litigation firm and later on his own. Plotz was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY. He received a J.D. magna cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania Law School, where he was also Executive Editor of the Law Review. He was awarded a B.A. cum laude from Yale University. Plotz and his wife (Sue) are residents of Berkshire County and have been full-time residents for the past four years. They have three sons.
