According to Deadline, Golden Globe nominee Brian Cox has signed on to join Amazon Studios’ upcoming James Bond-themed unscripted competition series, titled 007’s Road to a Million.
The Succession vet is set to appear as The Controller, who will serve as the game show’s “villainous and cultured” emcee. The character is described an “enigmatic character who controls the fate of the contestants,” and revels “in the increasingly difficult journeys and questions the contestants must overcome.”
“I got to see how ordinary people would cope with being on a James Bond adventure,” Cox said in a statement. “As they travel the world to some of the most iconic Bond locations, it gets more intense and nail-biting. I enjoyed my role as both villain and tormentor, with license to put the hopeful participants through the mangle.”
007’s Road to a Million is a global adventure reality series where contestants will compete for the cash prize of $1.3 million. This marks the first time that the long-running spy franchise is venturing into television. The unscripted series hails from franchise owners Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson, who are executive producing the eight-episode series through their EON Productions banner. It is a production by Britain’s 72 Films and MGM Television.
The James Bond-themed competition show was filmed in several historic locations that were featured in previous Bond films. Two-member teams will be going through a “test of intelligence and endurance,” which includes “passing physical obstacles and correctly answering questions hidden in different locations around the world in order to advance to the next challenge.”
007’s Road to a Million is executive produced by David Glover for 72 Films along with Barry Poznick and Mark Burnett for MGM. Dom Bird will be overseeing the project on behalf of the studio.
