Sebi bans Eros International, promoters, MD and CEO from capital market in fund diversion case

Sebi on Thursday barred media and entertainment firm Eros International Media Ltd, its promoters, managing director Sunil Arjan Lulla and CEO Pradeep Kumar Dwivedi from the securities markets in a case pertaining to the possible diversion of funds. In addition, Lulla and Dwivedi have been prohibited from holding the position of a director or key managerial personnel in any listed company, including Eros International or its subsidiaries until further orders, according to an interim order. Micron to set up USD 2.75 bn semiconductor facility in Gujarat

Computer storage chip maker Micron will set up a semiconductor assembly and test plant in Gujarat entailing a total investment of USD 2.75 billion (around Rs 22,540 crore), the company said on Thursday. Micron will invest up to USD 825 million in setting up the plant in two phases. (READ MORE)

Bank of England hikes rates to 5% in surprise move to tackle stubborn inflation

The Bank of England raised interest rates by a bigger-than-expected half a percentage point on Thursday after it said there had been “significant” news suggesting British inflation would take longer to fall.The BoE’s Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) voted 7-2 to raise its main interest rate to 5% from 4.5%, its highest since 2008 and its largest rate increase since February, following stickier inflation and wage growth since its policymakers met last in May. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said his government’s goal is to make this decade a “techade”, adding that the central government has launched a ‘Start-Up India’ mission to encourage young entrepreneurs.Addressing the ‘Skilling for Future’ event at the National Science Foundation, PM Modi said, “We have established around 10,000 Atal Tinkering Labs in schools wherein children are being provided with all kinds of facilities for various types of innovations. To encourage young entrepreneurs, we have started the ‘Start Up India’ mission. Fitch raises India’s GDP forecast to 6.3% for current fiscal

Fitch Ratings on Thursday raised its forecast for India’s economic growth to 6.3 per cent for current fiscal year 2023-24 from 6 per cent it had predicted previously. This is primarily because of a stronger outturn in the first quarter and near-term momentum. The growth forecast compares with 7.2 per cent GDP expansion in FY23. In the previous fiscal year (FY22), the economy had grown 9.1 per cent. (PTI)

A team of BSF Punjab Frontier has recovered a drone from Pakistan in border village of Jodhawala in Fazilka district. According to news agency ANI, 2 kg of suspected heroin was recovered from the drone package.

WFI polls delayed

In a decision that may have ripple effects, an ad-hoc panel nominated by the Indian Olympic Association has decided to postpone the polls of the Wrestling Federation of India. According to an Indian Express report, the WFI elections will now be held on July 11. The panel says that the polls have been delayed due to several disputes within the state bodies. The members of these state bodies are the voters in the WFI polls.
