Brazil Becomes First Country to Adopt Global ESG Reporting Rules

Brazilian businesses will have to follow new international sustainability reporting standards by 2026, marking the first country with concrete plans to include the standards in national regulatory frameworks.

The International Sustainability Standards Board’s initial pair of disclosure rules, published earlier this year, take effect in fiscal year 2024. Other countries such as the UK and Canada are considering endorsement of the rules, meant to standardize corporate reporting on issues such as climate change.
