The applicant, Elite Legionaries The Fort Boxing Club, wanted to make the changes to a building in Leons Business Park in Heath Road but was refused planning permission on Friday, March 3.
Whitchurch Town Council did not leave a comment either for or against the proposal
Members of the public voiced support for the proposed development.

Ben Horton said: “I think this would be an amazing opportunity for young and older generations in the town with it being local to our community with it in easy walking/cycling distance from the town and on local bus route passing.
“It will will attract the wider community and open more opportunities and avenues for all ages and abilities to enjoy a controlled sport and promote health and wellbeing for all ages and opportunities.”
Sheree Jones felt it was needed in Whitchurch because of its location for residents and because it would benefit young people in the town.
She explained: “This is desperately needed within Whitchurch for all sorts of reasons.
“The nearest similar thing is 45 minutes away which is not easy to get to and it would be a huge help towards all kinds of children and young people for all manner of reasons.
“Self-esteem, health and fitness, friendship and support and mental health are big reasons.
“It would help put young people on the right pathway for life.
“I would fully support this.”
Shropshire Council case officer, Richard Denison raised issues concerning parking and the proposed location of the new facility.
He concluded: “Shropshire Council supports recreational facilities which are located in sustainable locations.
“Unfortunately, this proposed unit is located within a new commercial development which is restricted for office, research and development and light industrial commercial uses.
“No evidence has been submitted to indicate that alternative premises are not available and therefore the loss of this new employment unit is not justified.
“The proposed application does not provide any justification regarding the parking demand and how this would be managed for employees and customers.
“Concerns are raised that inadequate car parking provision is provided which would lead to highway safety concerns.”
