Bank continues award-winning ways
TSB bank has continued its stellar run in terms of claiming industry awards, including taking out the title of Consumer NZ’s People’s Choice, which it had won for eight years in a row.
The result, which is based on customer satisfaction surveys, closely followed news the bank won two Canstar awards.
TSB chief executive Donna Cooper said the industry recognition indicated the bank was “on the right track” in terms of the services it offered, and how it looked after customers.
Taranaki tyre business expands
A New Plymouth-based tyre business will soon expand to Bell Block, with its purpose-built facility on track to open in July.
Advantage Tyre Solutions owners Darren and Michelle Erb run their business from its Courtenay St base, and are part of a nationwide network.
A recent change saw Advantage take on, and rebrand, the 50 Beaurepaires stores it owned across New Zealand, including in New Plymouth.
While the Gill St Beaurepaires premises shut on April 7, its staff joined the Advantage crew employed by the Erbs.
The couple’s second store will include dedicated drive-through lanes for trucks.
Health and trades top job listings
Of the more than 350 job vacancies listed online around Taranaki Maunga, the most sought-after were either within the healthcare sector, or trades and services.
As of May 1, there were 359 roles advertised on Trade Me around the region. Healthcare topped the list of most vacancies available, on 71.
On Seek, there were 356 jobs advertised in Taranaki, with trades and services the most popular.
The national unemployment rate is currently 3.4%.

Help on offer for start-ups
Applications close on May 7 for Te Puna Umanga/Venture Taranaki’s latest initiative to help new start-ups get ahead.
The PowerUp Business Ready scheme is designed to help Taranaki innovators fast-track their ideas and build business capacity.
The support on offer involves a free, six-week programme, along with ongoing business advice.
The programme is due to begin on May 23, with successful applicants notified the week prior.
New Plymouth Ad Agency’s success
This month, The Promo Room won two trophies at the Australasian Promotional Product Association Awards, held in Auckland.
Up against international competition in the industry awards, the New Plymouth business, which employs five staff, won the promotional products open category, and that for uniforms, apparel and accessories.
Company director Andrea Leadbetter said the industry recognition felt like an “amazing achievement” and reflected the hard work of her team.
Pink Shirt Day 2023
May 19 marks Pink Shirt Day in New Zealand, which aims to raise awareness of bullying, harassment and discrimination.
Every year, one in five people report feeling bullied at work.
Workplaces, along with schools and communities, are encouraged to take part.
