Write a Work From Home Policy

WITT wants to help with the ins and outs of writing a robust work from home policy with a step-by step easy-to-follow approach. Hosted by Carol Curtin from WITT Te Pūkenga on October 12 from 12 -1pm, this free training runs at Chamber House, 42 Egmont St, New Plymouth. Register on the Taranaki Chamber of Commerce website.

Apprentice Challenge

Apprentices and new hires to the construction and energy trades are invited to compete in the apprentice challenge. This is an annual event run by the Taranaki Construction Safety Group and BeSafe Taranaki.

It’s a fun event on October 20 at 26 Manadon St, Spotswood focused on 12 small safety-related tasks throughout the day.

HR Workshops

Looking to brush up on your HR skills? The HR specialists at Baker Tilly have two workshops coming up that cover everything from the basics; employment law, relationship issues, employment agreements and terms, right through to how to manage performance and behaviour or how to handle a possible restructure or redundancy situation.

Employment Basics, October 12 at 9.30am and Managing Performance and Behaviour, November 11 at 9.30am. Both at Baker Tilly, 109 Powderam Street.

Institute of Directors events

Not-for-profit governance and health and safety are up for discussion this month through the Institute of Directors. Each event is $25 for members, $45 for non-members.

New Plymouth Freedom Furniture gets a new owner

After 22 years of working for Freedom Furniture on Molesworth St, Valerie O’Neill purchased the business, making it locally owned.

O’Neill wanted to thank the community and let them know they would now be supporting local people when shopping at Freedom in New Plymouth.

High Tea overlooking the waterfront

Salt on the Waterfront is now serving monthly High Tea, with freshly hand-made savouries, gourmet sandwiches and sweet pastries. Next seating available is Sunday, October 22, $69 per person. Bookings are essential.

The Cutting Edge Hair Studio, located on the hill Devon St East, has been in business 16 years and owner Brenda Ardern is still loving hairdressing.

“Gratitude to all the amazing clients who support my salon, some now to me personally for over 20 years and to all our valued clients who continue to support my salon regularly.

“Shout out to all the team members past and present and to anyone who has helped The Cutting Edge to maintain the test of time through its many years.”

Cutting Edge is a salon promoting professional hairdressing to the community and is focused on the future for 2024 to become a space for rent-a-chair stylists in a freelance co-working space.
