Two area companies have been named among the U.S. Small Business Administration’s Eastern Pennsylvania District Office 2023 Small Business Week Award Winners.
Unique Snacks, located in Muhlenberg, Berks County, has been named Eastern Pennsylvania District Family-Owned Small Business of the Year. Unique Snacks was nominated by Martin Brill, coordinator, Ag Center of Excellence, Penn State University Small Business Development Center. Led by Vice President/COO Justin M. Spannuth and Vice President /CFO William P. Spannuth, Unique Snacks is a sixth-generation family operated snacks manufacturer and is known for its line of Unique Pretzels.
Experience Chiropractic, located in Tredyffrin Township, Chester County, has been named Eastern Pennsylvania District Woman-Owned Small Business of the Year. Experience Chiropractic was nominated by Sarah Barnard, strategic assistant, Experience Chiropractic. Led by Founder/CEO Dr. Brandie Elizabeth Keates, Experience Chiropractic opened in 2003 and provides chiropractic care, massage therapy and rehabilitation, according to the company’s website.
The Small Business Administration’s Eastern Pennsylvania Small Business Awards winners are selected from among nominees located across Pennsylvania’s eastern 40 counties. The local recognition is part of the annual National Small Business Week — April 30 to May 6.
“We applaud the achievements of small businesses and the organizations that assist them. It’s an honor to present these awards,” Steven Dixel, SBA Eastern Pennsylvania District director, said in a statement. “Each business is exceptional and deserving of recognition as they have grown their business, created jobs, demonstrated resiliency, and contributed to the growth of their local communities and the economy.”
A total of nine Eastern Pennsylvania District awards for 2023 were announced on Thursday, including:
• Eastern Pennsylvania Small Business Person of the Year: Jimmy Olang, President, The Brothers That Just Do Gutters Lehigh Valley, Allentown.
• Pennsylvania Exporter of the Year: Grovara, CEO Abu Kamara, Philadelphia.
• Eastern Pennsylvania Small Business Development Center Excellence and Innovation Award: Wilkes University Small Business Development Center, Director Dorothy Lane, Wilkes-Barre;.
• Eastern Pennsylvania Entrepreneurial Success of the Year Award: Crest Haven Farm Market, co-owners Shawn Snyder and Scott Keefer, Danville.
• Eastern Pennsylvania District Minority-Owned Small Business of the Year: TWB Cleaning Contractors, President Trina Worrell-Benjamin, Philadelphia.
• Eastern Pennsylvania District Veteran-Owned Small Business of the Year: rockITdata, Founder/CEO Marlene R. Andersch, Philadelphia.
• Eastern Pennsylvania District Young Entrepreneur of the Year: Taylor Chip, co-owners Douglas A. Taylor and Sara E. Taylor, Lancaster.
During National Small Business Week, the U.S. Small Business Administration recognizes and awards outstanding entrepreneurs, small business owners, and others from around the country. Recognition and educational events throughout SBA’s 68 district offices will be held during May.
