Noida: The power of an idea and the entrepreneurial spirit that gives it shape, often changing our daily lives and sometimes the world, was at the heart of one of the most anticipated gatherings of young innovators as the second edition of Bennovate got under way at Bennett University on Friday. The two-day entrepreneurship summit, at the university’s Greater Noida campus, contains a bevy of talented youngsters pitching their business ideas and showcasing their product prototypes, besides 900 participating students from 18 schools.Among the pitches on Friday from 22 innovators, who lined up at Spark Tank Junior, the first position went to Yantra (car safety device, Aster Public School), the second to Farms on Wheels (hydroponics farming on trucks, Jaypee School) and the third to Kaam Unity (house helper aggregator, Somerville Greater Noida). Around 25 entrepreneurs and startups were also present at Bennovate 2.0 to showcase their products at various stalls set up on the campus. One of them was Neel from Jaipur, who launched his jewellery business in 2022 named Alluring Minimalist. “This was an excellent opportunity to meet investors and connect with consumers,” he said. Besides Spark Tank Junior, other events on Day 1 included a startup expo, an ideathon, a fireside chat and an internship fair to walk participants through each stage of entrepreneurship. Mohit Gupta, co-founder of Zomato, Manas Madhu, founder of Beyond Snacks, and Samayak Jain, co-founder of InstaDapp and a Bennett University alumnus, later addressed the students as guest speakers. “Find the reason to become an entrepreneur. Entrepreneurship is hard, but one should have a realistic understanding of how and why behind the motives of becoming an entrepreneur to have a clear vision,” said Mohit Gupta. “There is a difference between activity and progress. Progress will need some time to explore and sharpen thoughts, while only accomplishment of activity might not bring any positive result,” he added. India, Gupta said, is at a powerful and interesting juncture of consumption and creation economies. “To be part of this in the next two decades is a privilege for all aspiring entrepreneurs. Today, we are super confident as an economy,“ he said, adding entrepreneurial spirit, pace of change and development of new technologies give India a conducive landscape for entrepreneurial spirit to flourish.Madhu, full of praise for the participants who pitched ideas and products, said, “It’s a brilliant crowd that I witnessed at Bennett University. The students are very energetic.” The most important parameter to become a good entrepreneur, he added, is identifying everyday problems and having the skill to solve them. “The e-commerce sector plays a big role for entrepreneurs as it helps to make the product available to consumers and create market demand,” he added.Diksha Nigam, senior manager of Invest India at Startup India, gave students a lowdown of the central portal. “It is very difficult to reach out to investors individually. However, with the Investor Connect under Startup India, one can easily connect with investors to facilitate business opportunities, which works on artificial intelligence-based matchmaking,” said Nigam.Prof (Dr) Ajith Abraham, pro vice-chancellor, Bennett University, said, “Innovation runs in the DNA of Bennett University since its inception. Innovation creates employment, marching along economic pathways and thus Bennett Hatchery at BU mentors young entrepreneurs of tomorrow. I am proud to say Bennett has successfully nurtured many successful entrepreneurs and is poised to make the change for a better future ahead.”
