Pune: Chief of Army Staff General Manoj Pande has said the Army is reviewing its organisational structure as part of the force restructuring and optimization process.A release issued by the defence PRO in Pune on Wednesday quoted General Pande as stating, “The review is to include rightsizing, rationalising and reorganising while undertaking modernisation and technology infusion to include niche technologies such as 5G, AI, quantum lab, internet of military things, robotics, adaptive manufacturing and space assets for satellite communication. These capability development endeavours stand committed to the vision of Atmanirbharta.” The Army Chief was addressing members of the Pune International Centre (PIC) at a closed-door event on Monday to mark the 8th Pune Dialogue on National Security. The defence release stated that the Army Chief emphasised on “inextricable link between the nation’s progress and its security needs”. He stressed that while economic power was the fountainhead of growth, yet it was the military strength “that lends it the ability to effect the outcomes necessary to protect and further its multifarious interests while ensuring continuous increase in its comprehensive national Power”.Deliberating upon the contours of the current and evolving geo-political landscape, General Pande elucidated on the need to “expect the unexpected” as the battle space has become more complex, contested and lethal, the defence release stated. Apart from the PIC, members of Observer Research Foundation, armed officers, veterans and other distinguished guests were present at the event.

Two retired Pakistani Army officers, Major (Retired) Adil Farooq Raja and Captain (Retired) Haider Raza Mehdi, have been sentenced to rigorous imprisonment of up to 14 years for inciting sedition and violating the Official Secrets Act. Ulfa-I member held after Army base attack
Following a grenade attack on an Army base in Tinsukia on Wednesday night, a member of the banned United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (Ulfa-I) was arrested by security forces in Bordumsa area of the district along the Assam-Arunachal border. The captured militant, identified as Achyutanand Neog alias Niloy Asom, was found in possession of a grenade. Neog and his wife had joined the Ulfa-I in 2022, leaving their minor daughter behind. Neog was part of an eight-member Ulfa-I group led by Sourav Asom, which infiltrated Tinsukia district from Myanmar through Arunachal Pradesh.
