Armstrong Teasdale has cut 30-plus staff and attorneys positions, making it the latest US law firm to trim its workforce amid a slowdown in the legal market.

The St. Louis-based firm laid off 24 staffers and 11 lawyers, firm spokeswoman Monica Kriegel confirmed Tuesday.

The staff cuts followed a “review of our organizational support structure,” Armstrong Teasdale managing partner Patrick Rasche said in a statement via email. The attorney layoffs were a result of “productivity and performance” reviews, he added.

The layoffs follow staff and attorney cuts at several other big US law firms, including Reed Smith, Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe, Dechert, Davis Wright Tremaine and Cooley LLP.

“This difficult decision allows us to streamline the firm’s operational structure for better integration, improve efficiency in the provision of services, and ensure our ability to continue to exceed our clients’ expectations,” Rasche said.

Armstrong Teasdale last year climbed the ranks of the country’s largest law firms, posting a 12% gain in gross revenue ($197.3 million). The firm’s profits per equity partner declined by 14% to $634,000, according to data compiled by The American Lawyer.

In April, the firm said it acquired Chicago-based Novack and Macy in a combination that added about 50 lawyers and staff. Armstrong Teasdale ended 2022 with more than 700 employees and 358 lawyers, according to American Lawyer data.
