Ant-Man 3 Writer Addresses Deleted Scene With Hope’s Children

Screenwriter Jeff Loveness revealed that a deleted storyline from Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania would have featured a multiversal family for Hope van Dyne.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Loveness revealed that prior to being cut, there was a storyline involving a longer-haired Hope van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly) and a child that would have been hers in another universe.

According to Loveness, there was a bit more involved, and while he did love the idea of the storyline, it had to be cut due to streamlining the film.

“Scripts are always bigger than the cut that the audience sees, and while that was a storyline that I really liked with Hope and Evangeline [Lilly], I certainly understand why we had to streamline the movie,” said Loveness. “I really love the movie that’s out in theaters, but there was a bit more. Again, I don’t quite know what I can say, but there was Hope’s perspective on the multiverse as well, and possibility, and things like that. So I’m a fan of that story, and I’m a big fan of Evangeline’s performance in some of that stuff. So you never know what might come back around in an Avengers movie down the road, but I can’t say too much more. I’m happy with what we have, but there’s always something on the side for the three-hour Loveness cut. Maybe you’ll see it one day.”

The first mention of this actually came via an Instagram post by child actor Lucas Grant’s mother, who shared photos of Lucas on set with Lilly and other stars. In the post, Grant’s mother notes that despite the moment being cut, Grant had a great time filming.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is available now in theaters, and kicks off Phase 5 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
