American Airlines has outlined a number of new and forthcoming updates to its AAdvantage loyalty programme, including the option to claim bonus Loyalty Points when reaching selected Loyalty Point Reward levels.
The carrier launched Loyalty Points Rewards in March 2023, with members able to choose from a range of benefits including priority check-in and Admirals Club day passes when they reach certain levels.
From 1 March, 2024 these will include the option to receive a bonus 1,000 Loyalty Points when reaching the 15,000 Loyalty Point Reward level, 5,000 bonus points when reaching 175,000, and 15,000 bonus points when reaching 250,000.
Also coming in 2024 (but with no set date at present) will be the ability to earn miles when paying cash to upgrade to premium cabins, and the option to redeem miles “for upgrades with select airline partners”. No information has been given at this stage as to which airlines this will involve.
And AAdvantage Platinum Pro status members and above will soon be able to redeem miles for Flagship First Dining passes.
American is also moving towards making more of its existing paid-for benefits only available to AAdvantage members. For instance from later this year customers will only be able to purchase Admirals Club one-day passes or Flagship Lounge single visit passes if they are Aadvantage members.
From this month members will be able to cancel non-refundable Basic Economy domestic tickets and receive a partial Trip Credit, providing the travel hasn’t started and the booking was made directly through AA.
And finally from 1 March only AAdvantage members will be able to request same-day standby for an earlier flight.
