After getting a mixed reaction from its theatrical release, the 2023 Telegu film Agent seems to be set for its OTT release at the end of this month. Directed by Surender Reddy, Agent is a spy action film featuring Akhil Akkineni and Mammooty in pivotal roles.

Despite having two years of production effort, the movie still failed to perform in the box office collection. The overall worldwide box office collection was nearly about $1.6 million from the budget of around $10.2 million. A major reason behind the film’s failure to captivate the audience was the claimed lack of originality in the storytelling.

The movie revolves around RAW chief Colonel Mahadev, aka ‘The Devil (Mammootty), who gets enquired about a mission involving the killing of two terrorists. On the other hand is Akhil Akkineni’s Ramkrishna, alias ‘Wila Sala’. He aspires to become a RAW agent despite having faced many failed attempts. The two then collaborate on a mission to capture Dharma, alias ‘The God’ (Dino Morea). Besides the action and thrilling package, the film also has a romantic element.

Akhil Akkineni Agent will be released on Sony LIV

Following the release of Agent in theaters on April 28, 2023, fans of Akhil and Mammootty have been eagerly awaiting the film’s OTT release. It was originally set for its digital debut on September 29, 2023, but the Telegu movie faced some obstacles. The potential obstacle was the legal issue initiated by distributor Battula Satyanarayana.

However, recent reports claimed that the movie is finally set to be released in January on Sony LIV. As of this writing, the expected date for the digital debut is January 26, 2024.

The film was theatrically released in multiple languages, including Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi. Despite facing setbacks in the theaters, the OTT release might be a significant comeback for the film. Thus, it will be intriguing to see how the audience will respond to Agent on Sony LIV after having an unsatisfactory run in theaters.
