Travellers across Italy will face disruption on Monday (8 January) after airport baggage handlers and security staff declared a 24-hour strike action.
Unions representing airport baggage handlers in Milan have called a national strike from midnight on 8 January until midnight on 9 January. The work stoppage will include workers at Ags Handling, Mle-Bcube, Airport Handling, Aviapartner Handling and Swissport Italy – which operate at Milan’s Malpensa and Linate airports.
Additional delays are expected at Rome Fiumicino Airport as well as airports in Venice and Treviso as security staff from Adr Assistance, Adr Security and Triveneto Sicurezza also plan to walk off the job for 24 hours next Monday.
Meanwhile, ground staff at Cft and Rekeep, which operate at Florence Airport, will also stop work on 8 January.
As per Italian law, a minimum level of essential services will continue during the strike, with flights scheduled between 7:00 and 10:00 and from 18:00 to 21:00 expected to proceed as planned. However, at the time of publication, Italy’s National Civil Aviation Authority (ENAC) had not yet communicated the list of guaranteed flights.
