When an airline hits 90 years of flying, the chances of them having a celebration are pretty high. While most opt to have an online sale or do something special at the airport, Air France has taken things to another level by having a unique dress collection created and exhibited for them in honor of the landmark anniversary.
As the product of a merger of Air Orient, Air Union, la Société Générale de Transports Aériens, the Compagnie Internationale de Navigation Aérienne, and Aéropostale, the airline was officially inaugurated on October 7, 1933. Nowadays, Air France has around 1,000 flights per day to 200 destinations in a fleet of more than 230 aircraft.
The Dress Collection & Other Fun Memorabilia
The collection, which was designed by Xavier Ronze, the head of the costume design workshops at the Paris Opera Ballet, will consist of five dresses that embody the airline’s history.
Each of the dresses will interpret different messages, including aircraft and technology. Uniforms and fashion, it’s vast network, fine dining, and design and architecture. The dresses are meant to showcase how advanced the airline is within the fields and how it has evolved.
They will be available to view in the windows of Galeries Lafayette from September 28 to October 10, 2023. The dresses will be displayed in 12 windows of the famed department store and housed among vintage Air France memorabilia.
In addition, the French carrier will be in the spotlight of pop-up stores within the department store with a specially created collection. It will offer a range of items specially designed or reissued for the anniversary, including limited edition models of old and new aircraft, postcards, baggage tags, and other memorabilia supporting the 90th-anniversary signature.
Air France is also reissuing items such as its famous vintage travel bag and iconic posters, which will also be available for purchase. In addition, the airline is teaming up with French brands, ranging from Delsey to Bernardaud, to create an exclusive collection.
New Additions
Earlier this year, the French carrier unveiled upgraded cabins in Business, Premium Economy, and Economy classes.
With fully reclining seats, fully closing doors, and several other new features, the 48-seat redesigned business-class cabin is one of the most comfortable ways to get to France from the United States.
With the new additions, Air France’s long-haul business class cabins will have fully flat seats by the end of 2023.
In the premium economy cabin, 48 passengers have recliner-type seats that offer additional legroom and width. As for the economy cabin, the airline claims they meet ‘the highest standards of comfort on the market’ and have widescreen 4k HD screens with Bluetooth capabilities.
Furthermore, Air France has partnered with the online platform Alltheway to allow passengers to arrange for their baggage to be picked up from specific locations before heading to the airport.
The new service is only available to passengers of the airline and is now available at five Accor hotel locations across Paris, including Novotel Tour Eiffel, Mercure Tour Eiffel, Novotel Les Halles, Mercure Montparnasse, and Pullman Bercy.
