Russia’s TASS news agency has reported that Sweden does not yet intend to send Gripen fighters to Ukraine.
In an interview on the Swedish talk show TV4, Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson said, “We are not in that situation. We will do everything to support them with aviation, but there are no new obligations to transfer Swedish aircraft to Ukraine.”
“Sweden is a geographically large country, we have to defend ourselves, and we are not yet in NATO.”
Last week, Zelenskyy asked Sweden for Gripen aircraft, but he was only promised the production of the CV90 infantry fighting vehicle.
“I have great respect for the fact that they want more of everything, they need more of everything,” Kristersson commented.
“It’s a balance between what we can give them and what we must have ourselves. Now we are part of the so-called F-16 coalition, where we are partnering with 14 countries to ensure Ukraine’s aviation capabilities.”
