EV launches: The electric vehicle (EV) segment of the country’s automobile industry has already witnessed considerable growth, and with various automakers to launch upgraded versions in 2024, the competition is likely to elevate as EV consumers will have an even wider array of options to choose from.

Tata Motors

One of the most anticipated launches is the Tata Punch EV, a compact SUV, poised as a budget-friendly electric SUV option for city roads. Built on Tata’s ALFA platform, the upcoming vehicle is expected to offer two battery pack options, with the long-range model set to deliver a range of up to 315 km per charge.

Tata Motors, a major EV market player, also plans on introducing Harrier EV to the production line soon.

The Tata Harrier EV claims to have a 500km range on a full charge, surpassing the long-range variant of the Nexon EV, which boasts a 465km range.


 

BYD

The Chinese EV maker BYD also has plans to tap into India’s EV market with its electric sedan, the Seal, by mid-2024. 

Based on BYD’s e-Platform 3.0, the Seal will come with two battery options, and offer ranges of 550 km and up to 700 km on a single charge. The sedan also has the ability through acceleration of reaching from 0-100 kmph in just 3.8 seconds.

Mahindra & Mahindra 

Mahindra & Mahindra, a pertinent player in the EV market, has announced its plans to introduce XUV300 EV, a budget-friendly option to compete with the Nexon EV. The XUV300 EV is expected to have a smaller battery than its predecessor, the XUV400.

Mahindra & Mahindra is also set to introduce another EV with the company’s next-generation electric vehicle lineup, XUV.e8.

This electric SUV is expected to feature an 80 kWh battery and offer two power outputs – 230 hp and 350 hp. The range is speculated to be up to 450 km, and there may be a twin-motor setup for all-wheel-drive capability.
