A new wine bar is set to serve customers tonight following a business collaboration that ‘just made sense’.

Langams Wine Bar by Heart of Suffolk Distillery will open its doors at 5pm in Market Place, Stowmarket, and offer cocktails, spirits, beer, wine and meat/cheese grazing boards.

Heart of Suffolk Distillery co-owners Tom Mills and Ryan Luke are looking forward to this next venture for the business and are pleased to be collaborating with Langams owner Jo Frogley.

Tom said: “We saw the opportunity pop up and we just thought yes, this is it.

“Then after meeting Jo we had it all confirmed very quickly and it honestly just made sense to all of us.

“Doing this collaboration is by no means trying to create any competition in the town, it’s honestly the opposite – we just want to make more of a buzz in Stowmarket.”

From today, Langams café will transform into a wine bar from 5pm with a night-time atmosphere of low lighting and an evolving wine menu – making every visit different.

It will be open Wednesday to Saturday nights and showcase local produce such as beer from Humber Doucy based in Bacton, wine from Vino Gusto in Bury St Edmunds and honey from Drinkstone near Woolpit.

Jo Frogley opened Langams in July 2019 which will continue to serve coffee shop customers during the day.

She has been running the venue as a wine bar on Saturday nights but she hopes Tom and Ryan will be able to run the bar to its ‘full potential’.

Jo said: “It’s such a beautiful building and it needs to be used to its full potential in the evenings.

“It’s so nice to be involved in something like this and to keep it all in the town too, it’s a bit like a match made in heaven.

“People coming to the wine bar might peek at our café menu and likewise customers during the day might fancy coming to see what the bar is like – it’s about promoting each other and helping each other to thrive.

“I’m so passionate about Stowmarket and I think this is very exciting for the town.”

The team behind Heart of Suffolk Distillery have a busy weekend ahead of them as they will also be opening the business’ new shop and event space in Finbow’s Yard, Bacton, tomorrow.

The shop, called The Elms, will offer local produce and sweet treats and give the distillery a more prominent location to host gin tastings and other events.

Saturday night will also see the second launch at the wine bar where guitarist Tim Ainslie will be proving some live music entertainment.

Ryan joked: “It is so exciting and we’re just riding on adrenaline at this point – so it can only go well, right?

“We know people are looking forward to seeing this next phase for our business.

“Honestly, joking aside, there’s no reason why this shouldn’t be a success – we can’t wait.”
