Jeonnam Governor Kim Young-rok, who is on a European tour, signed an investment agreement with Linde and Hanyang in Frankfurt, Germany, to create an US$800 million (1 trillion won) blue hydrogen production cluster.
Germany’s Linde is the world’s largest industrial gas and engineering company and is actively investing in green energy production, processes, and uses in each field of the hydrogen value chain, according to the Jeonnam Provincial Government.
Currently, Hanyang is constructing an LNG terminal in Myodo, Yeosu, and is promoting the construction of a cogeneration power plant. Linde and Hanyang are planning to produce blue hydrogen and develop the clean hydrogen power generation business in Myodo by investing US$800 million from 2024 to 2030.
The Yeosu Myodo Blue Hydrogen Production Cluster is a project to produce 80,000 tons of blue hydrogen per year, capture 430,000 tons of carbon dioxide per year, and bury 13 million tons of carbon dioxide in overseas storage facilities for 30 years.
