(ANSA) – ROME, MAY 3 – Istat said Wednesday that the number
of people in employment in Italy rose by 22,000 (+0.1%) in March
with respect to February and by 297,000 (+1.3%) compared to the
same month last year.
It said the rise had taken the number of people in work in Italy
up to 23.349 million.
The agency said the increase was driven by a rise in the number
of people employed on permanent contracts and in the
self-employed, while the number of temporary workers was down.
The national statistics agency said that the employment rate in
March was 60.9%, stable with respect to February and up 0.9 of
a percentage point on March 2022.
Istat said that Italy’s unemployment rate fell by 0.1 of a
percentage point to 7.8% in March.
It said the jobless rate for under-25s who are active on the
labour market also dropped by 0.1 of a percentage point to
22.3%.
It said the percentage of working-age people who are not active
on the labour market was stable at 33.8%. (ANSA).
