Pahal’s wholesale business delivers within one-to-three days, has a £500 minimum-order requirement and offers average margins of 30%
Nisa retailer Amrit Singh Pahal is to expand his new wholesale business by adding hundreds of confectionery and snack products imported from the US.
Pahal, who operates H & Jodie’s Nisa in Walsall, visited the US in the last month in efforts to build relationships for the wholesale business launched in February.
Although he declined to reveal what the lines were, he told Better Retailing a website making the products available to order will be launched in the next few months.
The service currently offers 10-20 lines of US confectionery.
Operating from a cash and carry in the West Midlands, Pahal’s wholesale business delivers within one-to-three days, has a £500 minimum-order requirement, and offers average margins of 30%.
Pahal added that visits to various convenience stores during his time in the US also influenced an upcoming refit of his store. He said: “They have food-to-go machines, but on steroids. I’m looking at bringing some of them over, and they’re going to be a big component of my store design.
“Stores in the US give a lot more space to their food to go, and it’s more focused on certain categories. We’re catching up, but are nowhere near that level.
“It’s something UK customers are looking for – we’re always just one step behind the US.”
