German prosecutors have applied for an arrest warrant against Markus Jooste after he failed to show up for his criminal trial in Germany.

His defence team in Germany contended that he couldn’t leave South Africa because of a 2017 agreement with the local department of justice. His lawyers also said he was unable to travel owing to passport problems, and that he ran the risk of being arrested if he tried to leave South Africa.

An Oldenburg court media liaison confirmed to News24 that prosecutors have applied for an arrest warrant.
