Ahoy mateys! Avast ye landlubbers and gather ’round, for we’ve got some news about the notorious Pirate Bay. This digital treasure trove has been a staple of the online piracy community for almost two decades, providing access to movies, and music, and its origin story is now set to become a limited series.

Dynamic Television, an LA-based production company, has acquired the worldwide rights to the story about The Pirate Bay and its co-founders Peter Sunde, Fredrik Neij, and Gottfrid Swartholm. The six-part series, which is set to go into production in the fall of 2023, is being produced by B-Reel Films for Swedish pubcaster SVT.

The show tells the story of three young men who created one of the world’s largest BitTorrent indexes in 2003, which was intended to ignite a revolution to let information flow freely. The Pirate Bay, originally intended to revolutionize file sharing and free the flow of information, soon became a hub for the illegal distribution of copyrighted content including films, music, books, and software. As a result, its co-founders were relentlessly pursued by law enforcement agencies, anti-piracy agents, and private investigators hired by Hollywood. Eventually, Interpol joined the chase, and the Pirate Bay’s founders faced significant legal consequences for their actions.

The upcoming series is set to be a classic tale of triumph and downfall. It will be directed by Jens Sjögren, who helmed “I Am Zlatan,” and head-writer Piotr Marciniak, who wrote “Everything I Can’t Remember,” will write the screenplay.

The series will be co-produced with SVT and Film Stockholm, with co-financing from pubcasters NRK in Norway, DR in Denmark, YLE in Finland, RÚV in Iceland, and support from Creative Europe Media. According to the show’s director, the limited series is set to be a wild ride, packed with paranoia, humour, and high-stakes challenges.
