Lionel Messi fans all over the world have tattoos of the Argentinian star and the amount of people getting Messi tributes after their World Cup win surged even more. But the latest to get a Messi tattoo was actually Messi’s own teammate on the national team, Nicolás Otamendi.
The Benfica player got a design which features two images of Messi – one in which he is touching the World Cup trophy and one with Messi from behind, doing his iconic celebration – plus the words “GLORIA ETERNA”.
Both Messi and Otamendi played significant roles in Argentina’s World Cup victory. Messi scored seven goals and two assists in the tournament, including two goals in the final against France, earning him the Golden Ball award. Otamendi didn’t sit out a single minute of the tournament and was a crucial part of Argentina’s defense.
What does Messi think of Otamendi’s tattoo?
For Messi himself, it was an honor for his own teammate to pay him tribute in this way. On his Instagram Stories, Messi thanked Otamendi, saying, “I have seen a lot of spectacular things done for me after the World Cup, but that a teammate, a friend like Otamendi got this tattoo, is more than special. Thank you so much Ota!”
