We’re halfway through this year’s Great British Spring Clean!
The Great British Spring Clean is a campaign hosted by Keep Britain Tidy and runs from 17 March to 2 April. It is the UK’s largest mass-action environmental campaign.
Previous years have been hugely successful in sprucing up the city, bringing residents together and building stronger community connections.
Events across the city
We’re hosting and supporting several events across Brighton & Hove.
Residents are invited to join us at cleaning, weeding and litter picking events across the city to prepare for the spring and summer seasons.
Whether you’re dusting up your doorstep, attending an event or want to organise your own beach litter pick, anyone can be part of this year’s Great British Spring Clean.
East Brighton Park litter pick
This event is a litter pick at East Brighton Park which has been organised by the Friends of East Brighton Park.
Our volunteer coordinator will be at the event, leading the park clean and offering advice on litter picking best practices.
This event is on 25 March at 10.00am.
Keep an eye on their Facebook page for updates about the event.
Tenantry Down Road tidy up
Our Tidy Up Team have organised a community tidy up of land on the intersection of Tenantry Down Road and Bear Road. The area is particularly affected by fly-tipping offences.
The plan is to remove piles of rubbish, rubble and tyres that have been dumped recently.
This event is on 26 March at 10.30am.
More details about the event and how to book your place can be found on the Tidy Up Team event on Eventbrite.
Ditchling Road parking tidy up
Our Tidy Up Team want to focus on the parking area on Ditchling Road. This area is often the target of fly-tippers because of its secluded, treelined and bushy location.
The site is around half-way between the Woodbourne Avenue and Coldean Lane intersections with Ditchling Road. The what3words location is ///vines.grass.stops.
As well as removing litter, we’ll be weeding and pruning bushes in hopes to deter fly-tipping offences in the future.
This event is on 31 March at 10.30am.
More details about the event and how to book your place can be found on the Tidy Up Team event on Eventbrite.
Join in by dusting up your doorstep!
Like last year, we’re encouraging residents to dust up their doorsteps. This might involve removing stickers from lampposts and parking signs, collecting litter on your street or removing weeds from outside your home.
Joining in and dusting up your doorstep will benefit you and your neighbours.
The best part? You can participate at a time that suits you!
Fancy organising your own event?
Residents, businesses and organisations can email communitycleanup@brighton-hove.gov.uk if they need support with a community event.
We’re supporting individuals and groups across the city by providing equipment and advice on health and safety.
