The Southern Coast of KwaZulu Natal has become a new property hotspot with developments popping up frequently, says Seeff Property Group.
The property firm said this growing trend is set to drive up the property market in the area as small towns along the coast offer sought-after lifestyles.
Joleen Giraudeau, a property agent for the area, said that the location makes it prime for the next development hotspot.
“Most towns have basic infrastructure and are not too far from a bigger centre. They are also mostly within under an hour to just over two hour’s drive from the Durban Metropolitan.”
The South Coast is also home to some Blue Flag beaches, top surfing locations, diving spots and multiple gold courses.
Many of the small towns are seeing somewhat of a revival, with residents and businesses stepping in to help clean up and restore the areas, said Seeff.
Despite being a long-standing holiday destination, post-pandemic, many have wanted to relocate to the area on a permanent or semi-permanent basis, said the agent.
“Whether you are older and want to retire to the coast or are looking for a more wholesome environment to raise your children, the KZN South Coast now beckons for residential buyers.”
Phelisa Mangcu, the CEO of the South Coast Tourism and Investment Enterprise, recently cited the South Coast as the new primary choice for residential buyers and said the area is poised for economic and development growth.
Prices in the area are said to still be very accessible compared to other coastal areas, and there are a handful of multi-million-rand developments underway.
Giraudeau said it is prime time to invest in the coastline.
Eco-estates similar to those in major metros are a large part of new developments – including the Serenity Hills Eco Estate in Margate, which is well underway and offers residency suitable for all ages.
“One of the most exciting developments in the country is the Renishaw Coastal Precinct which lies in the Umkomaas/Scottburgh area and also contains a large eco component.”
“The 2.6-million square metre, mixed-use coastal development includes residential, retail, educational, health care and light industrial/commercial zones,” said Giraudeau.
The precinct is only 48km from the major hub Durban, making it accessible for those who need to commute for work.
KwaZulu-Natal, in light of the semigration trend, has seen many coastal towns up north in areas such as Ballito and Umhlanga see significant growth – a trend that s seemingly set to extend down the coast as well.
