Melissa Newcomb has been hired by syracuse.com | The Post-Standard as a watchdog/public affairs reporter. She will primarily cover education, including the Syracuse City School District and Syracuse University.

Newcomb previously worked at the San Francisco Chronicle on investigations and podcasts after earning her master’s degree in journalism from Stanford University.

She interned at Voice of America in Washington, D.C., in 2018, and also briefly interned at the Democrat and Chronicle in Rochester.

She received her undergraduate degree in communications and legal studies from Nazareth College, where she completed academic research throughout the country entitled “Immigration Opinions in Relation to Location.” She also served as class president and captain of the volleyball team. She is a Syracuse native.
