Born into a family of watchmakers, Daniel Roth was one of the first great independent watchmakers of the modern era, alongside names like George Daniels, F.P. Journe, Philippe Dufour, Franck Muller, and Roger Dubuis. After cutting his teeth at AP, Breguet recruited Roth to lead that brand’s revival in the 1980s. In 1988, Roth set up his own company in Le Sentier, Switzerland. As an independent watchmaker, Roth produced a number of notable watches, almost always in his signature elipsocurvex case shape. His first release was a series of tourbillons; soon, he developed other complications, even collaborating with Philippe Dufour to build a perpetual calendar with an instantaneous jump mechanism.
