RV Chamber news: New travel business; seafood festival

The Roanoke Valley Chamber of Commerce last week welcomed home-based business Matia J Travels with a ribbon-cutting held at the chamber’s headquarters on Roanoke Avenue.

“Matia James has such a love for the Caribbean that she decided to open her own travel company,” the chamber said. “She has been sharing her expertise and booking flight and land packages, as well as cruises to the Caribbean since 2017.”

Seafood festival

Meanwhile on Saturday, March 9, the chamber will hold its third seafood festival from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the American Legion located at 717 American Legion Road in Roanoke Rapids.

Tickets are $60 per adult and $20 for children under 10.

The event will be catered by Washington Crab House and will feature steamed shrimp, steamed oysters, fried fish, barbecue sliders, cole slaw, green beans and hushpuppies.

Sweet and unsweetened tea are available and alcoholic beverages are available for those 21 and up with ID.

Mrs. Mini and the Sandman Band will perform.
