Roughly 400,000 homes were without power in the U.S. on Saturday as heavy snow and ice caused major disruptions on both coasts, ahead of a creeping front of Arctic cold that threatens to bring record-low temperatures to much of the country.
Parts of the upper Midwest, particularly around the Great Lakes region, got a second day of pelting snow and blizzard-like conditions, while areas in New England and the East Coast dealt with rain and scattered flash flooding, the National Weather Service said.
