Semi-autobiographical coming-of-age feature, Suncoast, will grace Hulu next month. Set to hit the streamer on February 9, 2024, the upcoming film is based on Laura Chinn’s teenage life from the early 2000s and her experiences tending to his brother’s serious illness.
Chinn, Suncoast’s director and writer, enlisted the names of Nico Parker (The Last of Us), Laura Linney (Ozark), and Woody Harrelson (Triangle of Sadness) for her directorial debut. Hailing from Searchlight Pictures, the upcoming movie will follow Parker’s character as she navigates her teenage years with a headstrong mother and a brother who must be taken into a specialized facility.
While she spends her time in the facility, the protagonist will soon find herself forming an unexpected friendship with an outlandish activist (Harrelson) in the middle of protests concerning one of the most controversial medical cases of all time.
“Inspired by the semi-autobiographical story of a teenager (Nico Parker) who, while caring for her brother along with her audacious mother (Laura Linney), strikes up an unlikely friendship with an eccentric activist (Woody Harrelson) who is protesting one of the most landmark medical cases of all time,” the official synopsis for Suncoast reads.
Chinn, best known for her roles in Grey’s Anatomy and Warrior, has been expanding her already impressive résumé these past few years. In addition to serving as Florida Girls’ creator, the actress and screenwriter also added another feather to her cap with her acclaimed memoir Acne.
Who else is involved in Suncoast?
In addition to Parker, Linney, and Harrelson, Suncoast also stars Matt Walsh, Keyla Monterosso Mejia, Scott Macarthur, Ella Anderson, Daniella Taylor, Amarr, and Ariel Martin. The film is produced by Jeremy Plager, Francesca Silvestri, Kevin Chinoy, and Oly Obst.
Suncoast premieres on February 9, 2024.
