A LOCAL dog groomer has featured on a shortlist of the UK’s best business name puns.
The business in question is Brae-based Hairy Pop-ins, which is a play on Mary Poppins.
People can now vote online for their favourite shop puns across the UK, with Hairy Pop-ins in the Scotland category.
The vote to crown the “punniest shop name” is being organised by language learning business Babbel.
Hairy Pop-ins owner Ashley Davies said she wanted a “fun and catchy” name that stood out when she began the home business in 2018.

“Over the years I have had a lot of comments on my business name and how much people love it,” she said.
Davies added that she is a “massive Disney fan” so Hairy Pop-ins felt “inevitable”.
“I do love a dinosaur too so Furassic Bark was also a favourite.
“I did have a long list of names I thought up, but Hairy Pop-ins I just felt was the most fitting.”
She said it was a complete surprise to see the name being shortlisted, with Babbel saying it scoured social media for the best puns.
Among those competing against Hairy Pop-ins in Scotland are Fife firewood shop Reservoir Logs, Musselburgh chippy The Frying Scotsman and Haddington-based computer repair business Easy PC.
Davies started Hairy Pop-ins part-time in 2018 before going full-time in 2019.
Due to the success of the business, she has recently taken on another groomer to keep up with demand, although Davies is going on maternity leave soon.
The business works with all shapes and sizes of dogs – “from the tiniest of chihuahua to Newfoundland”.
