bunkered’s Michael McEwan Named One Of The Country’s Top Writers
Global Edition
bunkered deputy editor Michael McEwan has been named one of the county’s top writers, winning plaudits for his style, knowledge and commitment to communicating his passion for the world of golf.
Continually at the heart of golf’s biggest stories, his work for bunkered in print and online in just the last year has ranged from obsessive first person tour reports, a forensically detailed account of how LIV infiltrated men’s golf and how a mental health crisis is impacting greenkeepers.
Winning both Writer and Columnist of the Year at the PPA Scotland magazine awards this week, judges praised his “strong tone of voice with a fun and informative style,” and that his work in the magazine and online is “engaging, witty, informative, and sincere”.
Organised by PPA to ‘recognise the talent, creativity, and innovation across specialist media’ 2023 is bunkered’s most successful year at the awards.
As well as Michael’s personal awards, bunkered was named ‘Consumer Title of the Year’. Judges said it demonstrates “total understanding of its target audience” and also praise its strategic pivot from being a ‘Scottish golf magazine’ to a ‘golf magazine from Scotland’. This pivot has meant that this year the magazine is selling on newsstands in England and Wales for the first time, better serving the golf community at large
