The Railway Benefit Fund (RBF) has announced that this Christmas they aim to give a £50 gift voucher to each child from the families they have supported throughout 2023.
RBF has helped over 1,000 people in the railway family this year; many of whom have struggled to cope with the cost of living. For some, simply putting food on the table for their children has been a difficulty. In recognition of how difficult it is for these families to give their children the Christmas they deserve, the charity sends a gift voucher to each child as a surprise to brighten up their Christmas day. This gesture from RBF makes such a difference to railway people and their children who are already struggling this Christmas.
To ensure that every child can receive a voucher this Christmas, the charity is reaching out to the rail industry to help cover this cost. Companies can support by making a pledge to purchase a set number of vouchers; fundraise by taking on challenges or holding events; or encourage staff to purchase vouchers as Secret Santa gifts. Every £50 raised is a gift for a child in the railway family who have faced hardship this year.
One parent who received a Christmas voucher from the charity last year sent a message of thanks: “I was in tears when I received the voucher. In such a terrible year, the help you gave me when I was in need made things easier, but now to receive this for my daughter has just been so lovely. You will make a little girl very happy on Christmas day!”
RBF CEO Jo Kaye said: “We are urging the rail industry to come together and support us with our Christmas appeal this year. From as little as £50, companies can get involved and make a real difference to railway people and their children this Christmas. If you are struggling for a Secret Santa gift, or something for your team to contribute that can make a real impact in the railway family, this could be it.”
