Our early careers team in our Birchwood office, Warrington were delighted to host a meeting of the Warrington Association of School and College Leaders (WASCL) to highlight the exciting opportunities that Sellafield Ltd offers across a range of disciplines, including science, technology, engineering and mathematics subjects.

The meeting was arranged through the Warrington and Cheshire Pledge Partnership, an organisation who connect businesses with schools and colleges in the area.

The WASCL meet on a monthly basis, and this latest session included a presentation from Sellafield Ltd’s Mark Duffy, a senior engineering and development educational manager and James Mercer, from our project engineering capability.

James said:

The pledge gave us the opportunity to present our engagement programme in the local area and discuss our early career pathways.

Here at the Warrington office, we currently have 61 degree apprentices, 49 graduates and 24 industrial placements on the training programmes for various roles across the business. Some of these went to schools in Warrington including myself.

Grace Sheldon, strategic hub lead for The Cheshire and Warrington Careers Hub, which sits within The Pledge Partnership, said:

Thanks to Sellafield Ltd for arranging the Warrington Head teachers meeting.

We’ve worked with Sellafield Ltd for many years in supporting young people to be inspired and prepare for success in their future careers.

Collaboration between local employers and schools/colleges is key to ensuring teachers are also aware of the opportunities available in the local area so they can best support students to achieve their potential.

Chris Hunt, Culcheth High School head teacher, added:

It’s great to see a local company offering so many opportunities for young people in a range of areas – and Sellafield Ltd is on our doorstep. We were delighted to visit the company, see their facilities and meet professionals that are an inspiration for our future workforce.
