Marriott International’s Autograph Collection has debuted in Hungary with the opening of Dorothea Hotel, Budapest, Autograph Collection.
Located in the city’s District V, the new hotel is housed across three historic buildings: Weber, the neo-renaissance former headquarters of United Budapest Metropolitan Savings Bank; Mahart, the art nouveau former headquarters of Hungarian River and Sea Shipping Company and Munnich, a modernist building with art deco and Bauhaus elements.
Named after Archduchess Maria Dorothea of Austria, the hotel features 216 rooms and suites with two design categories: contemporary and heritage, all equipped with modern amenities. There’s also a restaurant and bar in the hotel’s inner courtyard, an additional café and bar and a spa.
The hotel anticipates a further two restaurant openings helmed by Michelin-starred chef Dani García in 2024.
“Each Autograph Collection hotel tells a truly unique story and Dorothea Hotel, Budapest, Autograph Collection is a shining example of this, reflecting the rich history of Budapest through a refined and sophisticated lens,” said Sandra Schulze-Potgieter, vice president, premium and select brands, Europe, Middle East and Africa at Marriott International.
“This new opening expands our portfolio of Autograph Collection Hotels into one of Europe’s most fascinating cities,” she added.
According to Marriott, local historic preservation experts have worked with the hotel to retain the key elements of each building, including a heritage staircase.
Launched in 2010, the group’s Autograph Collection features more than 290 independent hotels with “distinct” hospitality and design elements.
